FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 15 OCTOBER 2007
BUY WELL, BUY SAFELY, ROBIN JACKSON TELLS FINANCE LEADERS
AT SINGAPORE CONFERENCE
Sourcing goods and services from the East can offer excellent
results as long as the risks are properly managed, ADR International
CEO Robin Jackson told a conference of global finance directors.
Speaking at the CFO Summit Asia in Singapore, he said recent
news stories involving substandard goods imported from China
and other countries showed what can go wrong.
But sourcing disasters can be avoided if the right kind of
expertise is applied, Jackson said.
"Making sure you have partnered with high-quality, reliable
suppliers is absolutely crucial wherever you are sourcing
from and whatever you are buying," he said.
"It is especially important when sourcing goods and services
from remote locations in developing economies where the risks
are higher. "But the prizes in terms of savings and quality are there
to be had as long as the procurement is properly handled with
all the correct checks, inspections and continuing supervision
of contracts."
Jackson, who has wide experience of sourcing from the Far
East and many other regions, recently identified 10 areas
for attention when considering buying from emerging markets.
It covered several areas including quality issues, culture,
logistics, supplier relationships, ethics and intellectual
property. He was speaking on "How procurement should be contributing
to business improvement" on the second day of the conference.
